Saudi Investment Firm Acquires Significant Stake in Capcom

A Saudi Arabian investment entity has recently acquired a substantial shareholding in Capcom, a prominent Japanese video game developer. This development comes as Capcom experiences a period of strong performance, highlighted by the commercial success of its recent titles.

The Misk Foundation, through its specialized Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC) division, has secured a 5.03% stake in Capcom. This acquisition involved the purchase of 26,788,500 shares. The foundation, which is under the ownership of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, has stated that its motivation for this investment is purely financial, focusing on profiting from potential increases in share value.

This strategic investment coincides with a highly successful period for Capcom. The company's horror franchise, 'Resident Evil Requiem,' has achieved remarkable sales figures, recently surpassing six million units sold. This milestone represents the fastest a title in the series has reached such a sales volume, significantly boosting Capcom's market position. Additionally, the forthcoming release of 'Street Fighter 6,' featuring new content such as the veteran character Alex, is expected to further contribute to the company's positive trajectory. Capcom's shares are currently valued at 3,562 JPY, reflecting this strong market confidence.

The Misk Foundation is not new to the gaming industry, as it already holds complete ownership of SNK, another well-known game developer responsible for popular fighting franchises like 'Fatal Fury' and 'The King of Fighters,' as well as the 'Metal Slug' action series. This prior engagement in the gaming sector underscores the foundation's continued interest in the industry.

This recent acquisition by the Saudi investment firm underscores a growing trend of significant financial entities diversifying their portfolios into the dynamic and profitable video game industry, aiming to leverage the success of established developers like Capcom.
