Elecom Unveils First True 8K Wireless Gaming Mouse with UWB Support

Elecom has unveiled a revolutionary gaming mouse, the VM800, which promises to redefine wireless performance with its integration of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. This development targets the increasingly common issue of 2.4 GHz wireless signal saturation in modern, device-filled homes, aiming to deliver an uninterrupted and highly responsive gaming experience. The company asserts the VM800 is the world's first 'true 8K' mouse to incorporate UWB, signifying an 8,000 Hz polling rate that ensures perfect synchronization between the mouse and its receiver, a significant upgrade from standard 8K connections that may lack this precise timing.

The VM800 leverages UWB, which operates in a less congested portion of the radio spectrum (7.25 to 9.3 GHz) compared to the widely used 2.4 GHz band. While UWB has a shorter effective range, its application in precise, interference-free commercial and industrial tracking suggests its potential to mitigate connection issues prevalent in crowded wireless environments. Elecom highlights that the VM800's wireless click response is five times faster than its earlier 1,000 Hz models. Beyond its cutting-edge connectivity, the mouse boasts impressive specifications, including a PixArt PAW3950 sensor with a 30,000 DPI resolution, 750 IPS maximum speed, and 50 G acceleration. Weighing only 59 grams and equipped with high-purity PTFE feet, it promises both precision and agility.

However, the advanced 8K polling rate introduces a common challenge for high-performance gaming peripherals: battery longevity. Although specific battery life figures for the VM800 at its full 8K polling rate are not yet available, it is anticipated to be significantly reduced. Furthermore, the mouse's effective range is limited to 1.5 meters, making it primarily suited for desktop use. Currently, the Elecom VM800 is available exclusively in Japan, priced at approximately 19,980 yen (around $136 before shipping). Despite the premium cost, the promise of an interference-free connection for serious gamers could justify the investment.
