Assassin's Creed Shadows Update Introduces New Features and Content

09/11/2025

Ubisoft has released an important update for Assassin's Creed Shadows, bringing several new elements and improvements to the game experience. This update includes an increased level cap, more capable scouts for uncovering map locations, and expanded hideout customization options. Furthermore, players can now wield a new weapon, the bo staff, with Naoe, and acquire a unique cat cosmetic inspired by Ezio Auditore da Firenze via the Animus Hub. These additions are designed to rekindle player interest and lay the groundwork for the forthcoming 'Claws of Awaji' expansion, scheduled for release on September 16.

Six months after its initial launch, Assassin's Creed Shadows continues to evolve with a new major patch. The development team at Ubisoft has been diligently working on enhancements and downloadable content. The recent 1.1.1 update, preceding the 'Claws of Awaji' expansion, offers substantial changes. The maximum level attainable by players has been raised to 100, providing more progression opportunities. A notable quality-of-life improvement allows players to freely adjust the time of day once a specific hideout upgrade is unlocked. Moreover, scout capabilities have been significantly bolstered; fully upgrading them enables them to pinpoint viewpoints and safehouses in unexplored territories on the map, potentially simplifying travel and exploration.

These innovative scout abilities and the time manipulation feature are direct results of new hideout upgrades. Each distinct hideout structure now offers two additional upgrade tiers, contributing to a total of 20 new enhancements across three new hideout levels. This expansion of hideout customization addresses a common player feedback point, where many found themselves with nothing left to construct long before completing the game's core content.

Beyond the functional upgrades, the update also injects a dose of unique flair into the game. Players can embark on a new free questline called 'Go With The Bo' to unlock a bo staff for Naoe. In a world dominated by katanas and other sharp armaments, the bo staff presents a refreshingly understated yet potent combat option, suggesting a subtle confidence in its wielder. Additionally, the new Animus Hub introduces a pseudo-battle-pass system, offering various cosmetic rewards. Among these is a particularly charming item: a cat adorned in the iconic attire of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a beloved character from the franchise. This whimsical addition is sure to delight fans and adds a layer of lightheartedness to the rigorous world of assassins.

While this update promises renewed engagement, it remains to be seen if it will lead to a sustained return for players who previously felt they had exhausted the game's content. Many, including the author, have experienced reaching a point of completion with recent Assassin's Creed titles long before the games themselves were truly finished. Perhaps this break, coupled with the fresh content, is precisely what is needed to draw players back into the immersive world of Assassin's Creed Shadows, now with the added bonus of a new weapon and an adorably themed feline companion.
